About pregnancy photography
Pregnancy is such a precious time, we always feel honoured when asked to photograph this beautiful stage in woman’s life. We would encourage every woman to consider maternity photo session – it is a fantastic way of documenting the journey you had when expecting your little miracle.
Maternity sessions are a relaxing and enjoyable experience. We will take time to discuss with you any ideas you may have, but do not worry if you are unsure – we can help with that and create timeless and memorable photographs you will treasure forever.
You are more than welcome to bring along a partner and children to your photo shoot. This session may take place either in the studio or on location, but whenever the weather allows we would always recommend outdoors – the greenery in parks and in the countryside creates a gorgeous and natural backdrop all year round.
When is the best time to have maternity session?
Choosing the right time for your pregnancy photos is very important. We want you to have a nice, round belly, but we don’t want to leave it to the last minute when you may start to feel uncomfortable and we are more likely to miss the session if your little one decides to make an early appearance. For this reason, we recommend getting your photos done when you are around 30-36 weeks pregnant. Of course you can choose to be photographed at any stage during the pregnancy and it is advised to book the session earlier to ensure availability.
Maternity sessions last up to 2 hours and they can be done outdoors, in the studio or in both.
What should I wear for pregnancy session?
We have a variety of maternity dresses available to use during your session. These dresses are created especially for photography and will look great in photos. If you would like to consider wearing our dresses, please let us know and we can send you a gallery of images so that you can choose from our collection.
If you prefer to wear your own clothes, we recommend wearing something that you feel beautiful in. Maternity photos can be some of the most special and intimate photos that you’ll ever take and having the perfect outfit is a key to making your photos look amazing. Below you can find some helpful tips on what to wear and what to consider for maternity photos:
The maxi dress – not only comfortable but also flattering. Both a flowy and fitted type of dress is perfect for this type of photography and will look amazing when coupled with a belt or cardigan to accentuate your belly.
Solid colours work best and don’t take the attention away from you. If you want to add a bit of pattern then consider a delicate one, have your husband wear a patterned shirt or bring colourful accessories (necklaces, scarves, hats).
Tight clothing – if you feel comfortable wearing tight clothing then opt for a beautiful tight bodycon dress, which shows off your beautiful bump.
Be timeless and stay away from current trends when picking an outfit for the session – trends come and go and you want your maternity photos to be timeless and a fantastic memory for years to come.
Textured clothing – a texture on clothing adds dimension to the photos, so it is worth considering a lace dress or a chunky knit cardigan with tight top and jeans.
